Highlights

The car brand Koenigsegg, famous for their high-priced vehicles with potent engines and cutting edge designs, was established in the year 1994 by Christian von Koenigsegg, a Swedish auto engineer and entrepreneur.

Koenigsegg spent eight years debuting its initial street-legal version known as the CC8S; this model holds exclusivity due to only six units ever being produced.

In automotive parlance, "street legal" refers to a high-performance (or otherwise customized) vehicle which also meets all local requirements, and can be legally driven on public roads (not just racetracks).

The principle of creating limited cars per model is still followed at Koenigsegg, and they don’t manufacture cars intended for mass consumption.

Each vehicle they craft stands out for its uniqueness and is made utilizing top of the line technology.

Let’s take a look at the most expensive cars built by Koenigsegg, one of the most rarely sighted makes of automobile.

8 Koenigsegg NLV Quant

Koenigsegg introduced the NLV Quant as their first concept electric vehicle (EV), a project done in partnership with Switzerland's NLV Solar.

This all-electric vehicle utilizes advanced thin-layer solar technology and Flow Accumulator Energy Storage (FAES), an innovation conceived by NLV.

The FAES system is a combination of an electrochemical battery and a redox cell. Remarkably, it only takes 20 minutes to charge this accumulator fully, and it impressively offers over 300 miles of driving range.

With respect to electric vehicles (EVs), "driving range" refers to the distance an EV can travel before its driver needs to stop and recharge it.

The introduction of the NLV Quant took place in Geneva in 2009, followed by an exhibition in 2010.

Its design ingeniously merges the appearance of a high-performance sports car with the roominess typical of sedans.

Acquiring this innovative automobile isn't cheap, as it is priced at approximately $3 million.

7 Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut

The sleek Koenigsegg Jesko pays homage to Jesko von Koenigsegg, who is the patriarch of the firm's founder. The reveal of this vehicle took place at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.

Koenigsegg's Jesko model comes in two versions: the Jesko Attack and the Jesko Absolut, with the former being designed for racing circuits, while high speeds are the focus for the latter.

Both these versions have been given full approval for sale in the United States, and they are legal on roads worldwide.

Notably, due to enhanced features aimed at reducing wind resistance, a higher price tag accompanies Jesko Absolut compared to its counterpart model.

July 2021 marked the unveiling of initial pre-series production models of Jesko, with plans by company officials for distribution starting from spring 2022 onward.

Despite uncertainty surrounding the exact number of units expected under the "Absolut" version, the planned total output run was limited to just 125 vehicles (as indicated by Koenigsegg).

The estimated cost per unit stands at around $3.4 million.

6 Koenigsegg CC850

A recent addition to the Koenigsegg family, the CC850, made its public debut in Pebble Beach, California on August 19th, 2022.

This model is an homage to their inaugural production car, the CC8S, which debuted two decades ago in 2002.

In honor of Koenigsegg founder Christian von Koenigsegg's 50th birthday, a limited run of only 50 units was initially planned.

However, due to an overwhelming reception (and demand that saw all fifty cars sell out instantly), Koenigsegg elected to manufacture an additional twenty units six days later.

Christian von Koenigsegg expressed his sentiments about the CC850 stating:

The birth of our brand can be attributed largely to the success of the original - The CC8S.

von Koenigsegg further described how fitting it felt for him personally, adding that professionally unveiling this special edition car during his milestone celebration and marking two decades since their first production vehicle was a critical moment for the brand.

While both models may share nomenclature lineage as an homage, there are no other cross similarities between them. Instead, the brand drew inspiration from the Jesko for design execution within this model iteration.

To own one of these astonishing machines will set you back approximately $3.6 million.

Back in 2018, it was publicized that two Final Edition versions of the Agera would be introduced to mark the conclusion of its production run – with the Agera Thor being one of the two.

The Agera Thor is adorned with a dual-tone color scheme and flaunts an intricate carbon and diamond flake painted design. It is characteristically equipped with a prominent shark fin attached to the rear engine cover - an exceptional feature for this version only.

The Koenigsegg Agera FE Vader is the counterpart of the Final Edition Agera that was unveiled alongside the Agera Thor.

These two vehicles had strikingly similar designs and specifications, but there were some subtle differences. The distinctive dual-tone paintwork found in Agera Vader stands out due to an abundance of golden accents.

This model lacked a central fin atop the rear engine cover and featured smaller winglets compared to its sibling.

Equipped with an enhanced one-megawatt powertrain, both Vader and Thor have been upgraded to achieve thrilling speeds.

2 Koenigsegg One:1

The Koenigsegg One:1, a track-oriented vehicle with exceptional power, was first showcased at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show.

This machine took the title as the inaugural homologated production car to brandish one megawatt of potency, turning it into the world's first pioneer mass-produced mega car.

Moreover, only seven vehicles were crafted in total; this count includes the prototype that graced the Geneva Motor Show with its presence.

This road monster runs on a 5.0 L twin-turbocharged V8 engine - an upgraded version found in other Agera models. Its moniker One:1 signifies its unprecedented and once-considered unachievable horsepower-to-kilogram ratio for a fully street legal sports vehicle.

Initially tagged at $2.8 million apiece when released, by 2019 a model went under the hammer, fetching over $4.6 million during a philanthropic auction sale – the vehicle had earlier been seized from Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue (the son of Equatorial Guinea’s reigning dictator).

1 Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita

Koenigsegg's CCXR Trevita holds the title as the most costly vehicle Koenigsegg ever produced, with a price tag of approximately $4.8 million.

It was an exclusive edition model derived from the CCXR series, and can be viewed as its closing variation before the model was discontinued for good.

"Trevita" is a Swedish term meaning "three white," which aptly characterizes this car.

One of Koenigsegg's innovations was its "Proprietary Diamond Weave" carbon fiber finish - this unique process allowed for diamond coating over the fibers during production.

The vehicle comes fitted with a 4.8 liter, twin-supercharged V8 engine identical to that in the standard CCXR models, and runs on biofuel while boasting 1,018 horsepower capacity.

Koenigsegg had initially intended to construct three units of CCXR Trevita. However, due to intricacies associated with fabricating diamond weave carbon fiber, they stopped production after two were manufactured.

Noted boxer Floyd Mayweather once owned one of these two rare cars and auctioned it off in 2017 for $2.6 million – $2.2 million below its initial cost.
