Katherine Schwarzenegger and Chris Pratt have welcomed their first child, a baby girl. The news was shared by Schwarzenegger's younger brother Patrick, 26, who confirmed the couple had given birth after buying the new baby a gift.
Katherine, the eldest of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver’s children, is the first to give her parents a grandchild. Pratt also shares a 7-year-old son, Jack, with his ex-wife, Anna Faris. On August 1, Pratt, 41, praised Schwarzenegger, 30, for hiking with him to the top of a mountain despite her advanced pregnancy.
"Ready to pop, still don't stop," the Guardians of the Galaxy star wrote on Instagram, alongside a picture of his wife and her prominent baby bump. The couple, who were married in June 2019, announced their pregnancy this past April.
“She has changed my life for the better in so many ways,” Pratt told E!’s In the Room before the pregnancy was announced, adding that she has been a great stepmom to his son Jack and that he felt safe with her. He also expressed his belief that she would be a great mom one day.
Schwarzenegger told Entertainment Tonight on July 9 that she and Pratt were readying for the birth of their child by surrounding themselves with loved ones. She also stated that she has spent much of the quarantine in the kitchen, which gives her comfort, learning how to prepare new recipes.
During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in May, Arnold Schwarzenegger expressed his amazement that his grandchild would inherit the genes of the Kennedy, Schwarzenegger and Pratt families, joking that his progeny could solve the Cuban Missile Crisis, kill predators and train dinosaurs.
Shriver filed for divorce on July 1, 2011, after Schwarzenegger publicly admitted to having a child with their housekeeper, Mildred Patricia Baena, 14 years earlier, before he was elected as Governor of California. She had previously confronted Baena, who confirmed her suspicions.
Baena's son with Schwarzenegger, Joseph, was born on October 2, 1997, a few days after Shriver gave birth to their son Christopher on September 27, 1997. Schwarzenegger claims he didn’t realize he had fathered Baena’s child until seven or eight years afterward. He has since provided child support.
