Any film buff or movie nerd will tell you to never leave the theatre until after a movie is finished. For starters, the least you could do is show a little gratitude for the hundreds, and often times thousands, of people who worked tirelessly to produce the film you just watched. Those in the film industry deserve some recognition, and watching the credits gives you the chance to learn the names of the people who worked day in and day out. Aside from that, it pays to stay until after the credits because you never know what kind of hidden scenes and Easter eggs are waiting there for you. There are hundreds of films with after credits scenes. Some of these scenes are funny, and some of these hidden scenes hint at sequels. After credits scenes are ubiquitous when it comes to movies made by Pixar and Marvel Studios. However, there are many other movies that have added a little something extra for viewers who have a little bit of patience. Here’s a look at 20 of the best scenes hidden after the credits. 20. Grumpy Old Men
There was perhaps no better comedic duo in the history of cinema than Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon. They starred in 10 films together starting with the brilliant film The Fortune Cookie. They would star together in the comedy masterpiece the Odd Couple, perhaps their most famous movie together, and then go one to star together in a number of films in the 90s including the successful romantic comedy Grumpy Old Men.
They also starred in the even more financially successful sequel Grumpier Old Men. The ending of Grumpy Old Men includes a number of excellent and hilarious outtakes including some sidesplitting euphemisms for sex from Burgess Meredith. However, there is one outtake you might have missed if you didn’t stay past the end credits. After the credits roll viewers see Matthau in the tub remarking: “If I knew there was a nude scene in this picture I would have asked for another million.”
19. Guardians of the Galaxy
In the beginning, the after credits scenes in Marvel movies were about setting up future movies, but soon they started to become jokes. Eventually Marvel Studios starting putting two codas at the ends of their films - one mid credits and one after credits. In the space adventure about a rag tag groups of misfits turned good known as Guardians of the Galaxy, fans were treated to one of the most clever after credits scene in a Marvel movie yet.
Many were shocked to see Howard the Duck show up at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy. The hard-drinking and wise-cracking alien duck sipped on his martini as Benicio del Toro’s the Collector had his face licked by Cosmo the Spacedog. Howard the Duck was actually the first Marvel character to appear in a feature film on the big screen, so his brief return in the MCU was a nice nod to how much better comic book movies are now.
18. Wayne’s World 2

Just like Wayne’s World, Wayne’s World 2 features a hilarious after credits sequence. This one appears half way through the credits and is a spoof of the famous Keep America Beautiful ad campaign of the 1970s which was made to curb pollution and environmental damage.
The mid-credits scene shows the aftermath of Waynestock. The concertgoers left a path of destruction and left litter all over the place. The Native American guru shows up and sheds a tear over the litter strewn all over the place. But don’t worry, Wayne and Garth will clean up the mess.
17. Frozen
It seems like in the last few years Disney really has taken a page out of the Pixar’s playbook. Disney Animation started making better movies – and movies that were arguably far superior to the ones Pixar has made in the last five years.
In Frozen there is also an after credits scene, which is a staple of Pixar movies. In Disney’s Frozen we find out what happened to the ice monster that Elsa made to protect her kingdom. It turns out this monster wanted to be a beautiful princess too - just like Elsa.

In this classic John Hughes’ film starring John Candy as Del Griffith and Steve Martin as Neal Page, we are treated to a very hilarious after credits scene. It turns out that even after all the misadventures that Neal and Del have to go through in their quest to make it home from New York to Chicago in time for Thanksgiving, that some characters are still doing the same thing as in the beginning of the movie.
The advertising executive, played by William Windom in an uncredited role, is still examining the photos that Steve Martin’s Neal Page was waiting for him to be finished with at the beginning of the film. Talk about a workaholic!
15. The Great Outdoors
Pretty much any movie that John Hughes was involved in was destined to become a comedy classic. The Great Outdoors, which he produced and wrote, is no exception. The Great Outdoors starred the late great John Candy and SNL alum Dan Aykroyd, as brother in laws with two very different perspectives on life.
One of the greatest recurring gags in the film didn’t even feature either of these funnymen. Instead the raccoons provided some of the biggest laughs. The after credits scene of the Great Outdoors shows the curious critters discussing the movie’s epic finale in a very humorous fashion. If you don’t speak raccoon, don’t worry, because subtitles are provided.
14. Mr. Bean’s Holiday
The ending of this Mr. Bean sequel is both uplifting and charming, but the charm doesn’t stop when the credits start to roll. Before the credits begin to roll the entire cast of the movie breaks out in song as Bean makes his way to the beach in Cannes, France.
Mr. Bean has desperately been trying to get the beach through the entire film. After the credits roll we see one final shot from Mr. Bean’s video camera of him writing Fin in the sand with his foot.
13. South Park: Bigger Longer and Uncut

After the Terrance and Phillip movie is released, the town of South Park is in full outrage mode, and of course the only acceptable course of action is to blame Canada. During the chaos and outright war against Canada that happens in South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut, Kyle’s little Canadian brother Ike is in some serious trouble.
So, Kyle hides his brother from American forces so the Canadian youngster won’t end up in an internment camp. After the credits it seems everyone forgot Ike was still hiding in the attic and forced to eat rats for sustenance. “People out there got hurted,” he quips as he chomps down on a rat that scurries by him.
12. The Simpsons Movie

In the Simpsons Movie fans got to see Maggie finally talk, which is something she has only done a few times in the TV show. And what were exactly the words she uttered after the credits of The Simpsons Movie? She takes out her pacifier and quips: sequel?
Here’s hoping her words turn out to be true because it’s been 8 years since The Simpsons Movie was released and fans are still waiting for another film especially considering the fact that The Simpsons Movie was the greatest The Simpsons has ever been since the late 90s. The movie was nearly as good as the classics episodes we fell in love with from the early seasons. The end credits of The Simpsons Movie are filled with gags including the entire family watching the movie’s credits themselves and another stellar appearance by Tom Hanks.
11. Avengers: Age of Ultron

Avengers Age of Ultron didn’t have an end credits scene, but its mid credits scene gave Marvel fans yet another look at Thanos the Mad Titan. Josh Brolin voiced the power hungry alien overlord who first appeared during the end credits scene of the first Avengers movie. Thanos then had a much larger role in Guardians of the Galaxy. As each Marvel movie is released more and more clues are given to what it will be like for the Avengers when they face off against Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and Part 2. It’s quite possible a future Marvel film will give us an even better look at Thanos. Maybe Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which is due out in 2017, will hype up Thanos even more.
10. Dumb and Dumber To

The stupidity of Harry and Lloyd continues after the credits in Dumb and Dumber To. As the pair heads down the highway in their stolen Zamboni, they get ready to eat some fast food they picked up along the way. Unfortunately for them they were given each other’s milkshakes.
Harry should have had the chocolate shake and Lloyd the vanilla one. Instead of sensibly switching milkshakes they throw them away. There’s also a tease of a possible future film called Dumb and Dumber For, which has a hypothetical release date of 2034 – a 20-year wait between sequels just like Dumb and Dumber and Dumb and Dumber To.
9. Iron Man 3

The Hulk was a fan favorite in the Avengers, so of course the folks at Marvel wouldn’t miss a chance to bring back Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner as soon as they could. Iron Man 3 was the first Marvel movie in Phase 2, and the first Marvel movie to be released after the first Avengers.
So, if you stay after the credits you find out the whole time that Tony Stark was telling his story to Bruce Banner who had fallen asleep. It turns out Tony wanted to get some things off his chest, but as Bruce quips: “I’m not that kind of doctor.”
8. Django Unchained
This might be one of the shortest after credits scenes of all time. After all the credits roll on this Quentin Tarantino western, we see a final shot of three slaves that were locked up with Django as he was being transported to the mining company he was supposed to be sold to.
Of course, Django tricks his captors and escapes to make it back to rescue his beloved Broomhilda. The three slaves he was locked up with are still sitting in the cage and one remarks: “who was that?” The movie’s title card Django Unchained then hits the screen as the movie ends.
7. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Here’s another Marvel movie with multiple post credits scenes. The scene in the middle of the credits features Baron Von Strucker experimenting on Scarlett Witch and Quicksilver, who would later show up in this year’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. The after credits scenes shows us what happened to Bucky Barnes aka the Winter Soldier.
He visits the Captain America exhibit at the Smithsonian, and it turns out he is finally starting to realize what actually happened to him during World War II. The after credits scene perhaps teases the Winter Soldier becoming a good guy rather than a villain.
6. Zombieland
Bill Murray’s extended cameo continues after the credits of this horror comedy. His scene in the film is a reference to Ghostbusters, but his after credits scene sees a dying Bill Murray recite the lines from another of his most famous roles.
As Woody Harrelson’s Tallahassee is by his side, Murray reenacts his lines from the classic comedy Caddyshack where he was trying to get rid of the pesky gopher that was ruining the golf course. “In the words of the immortal philosopher Jean Paul Sartre: ‘Au Revoir, gopher.’ ”

The after credits scene in this hilarious and underrated Mike Judge cult classic shows us that it wasn’t just Maya Rudolph’s Rita and Luke Wilson’s Joe that made it into the future.
Rita’s pimp also made it to the future where everyone that’s left is incredibly stupid. He climbs out of his pod and walks down the street checking out the women that he passes on his way to look for Rita. He remarks: “I’m going to find this hoe.”
4. Thor: the Dark World

In this Marvel Studios movie the first hidden scene teases Guardians of the Galaxy and sees Volstagg and Lady Sif travel to Nowhere to deliver a package to the Collector. The item in question was of course an infinity stone, which was the MacGuffin in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie.
The after credits scene features Thor making his way back to earth and sharing a long, loving kiss with his beloved Jane Foster, just as he promised he would. There’s also a shot of a creature chasing pigeons that had made it through dimensions.
3. 22 Jump Street
If you ever wondered what the further sequels in the 21 Jump Street franchise will be like, all you have to do is sit through the end credits of 22 Jump Street. As the credits roll we see all the future adventures of Jenko and Schmidt including undercover missions for culinary school, art school, magic school, beauty school and flight academy.
But it doesn’t end there. There’s more hidden at the end of this film after the credits when Dave Franco’s Eric and Rob Riggle’s Mr. Walters are cuddling in their prison cell.
2. Big Hero 6
Just like all the Marvel Studios films, this Disney animated film features an after credits scene. It also shares another similarity with the Marvel Studios films: a Stan Lee cameo. However, you won’t see the Stan Lee cameo unless you stay until after the film’s credits roll.
When the credits finish we see Fred find his dad’s secret entrance to his superhero hideout after pressing the family portrait. When he finds the hideout, Fred’s dad enters and the pair recite their superhero mantra. It turns out being a superhero runs in the family.
1. Wreck-It Ralph
A video game centric movie would not be complete without plenty of references to classic video games characters, and in Wreck-It Ralph the nods continue right until the end of the movie.
After the credits roll in Wreck-It Ralph and just as the Disney logo is about to show up, it is interrupted by a kill screen, which is a reference to the Pac Man bomb screen that shows up when a player reaches the 256th level of arcade classic. It’s a nice Easter egg for fans of classic video games. The screen then flickers like an arcade machine being unplugged would.
