Ah, to be young and beautiful. Two of the most valuable states of being, according to society. While both are equally ephemeral, one will undoubtedly come to a screeching halt one day, and the other is grasped on to for dear life as the years fly by. These 11 formerly gorgeous stars didn't hold on quite tight enough to their once striking good looks. Though many desperately attempted to; made obvious by the botched plastic surgeries. Growing old has its advantages. For one, as time passes, we exchange youth for wisdom. But if you could give up a few brain cells each year to keep sipping from the fountain of youth, would you do it?
Looking as good as Halle Berry and Jennifer Lopez, who both turn 50 in less than 5 years, isn't a simple task. It requires taking great care of the body that is your temple. These two super star women dispel the belief that youth is synonymous with beauty. Their beauty has far outlasted their youth. It’s somewhat ridiculous to hold genetics solely responsible for how we age, when everything we put into our bodies today, affects how it appears and functions way into the distant future. That includes food and drugs. If only someone would’ve told Britney that in 2002.
It’s not easy watching your looks fade, especially when it’s your primary source of income; and a damn lucrative one at that. Unfortunately in many cases, no amount of money will truly reverse the hands of time, but if you’re taking great measures to stay healthy, then your odds of retaining your youthful looks increase exponentially. Here are 11 celebrities who quite frankly, didn't take proper care of themselves in the past which eventually cost them their looks.
11. Britney Spears
At one point during the new millennium, Britney Spears was considered the sexiest pop star on the planet. Britney’s prime was short lived however when things immediately went down hill after an ugly break up with fellow pop star Justin Timberlake. Britney was suspected of cheating on Justin multiple times during their 2 year relationship. A string of dysfunctional relationships followed for the Hit Me Baby One More Time singer, including two failed marriages. Britney's very public meltdown in 2007 led her to shockingly shave her head, and initiated rumors that the pop star was abusing crystal meth, which would ultimately rob her of her beauty. Britney who isn't even 35 years old, sadly looks closer to being 45.
10. Lark Voorhies
Time has been anything but kind to Saved By The Bell Star Lark Voorhies. After a 4 year stint as Lisa Turtle, 19 year old Lark began a moderately successful movie career that lasted about a decade. Lark was touted to be the next Halle Berry, but for some reason or another, things didn't pan out. In recent years, the former hottie has been photographed looking completely unrecognizable, and very poorly put together. Lark’s most recent interviews shot in 2012, have brought the television star’s mental health into question. No one can say for certain what’s going on with the former beauty, but it’s been speculated that Lark is suffering from severe bi-polar disorder.
9. Pamela Anderson
Pamela Anderson of Baywatch and V.I.P. fame was arguably the hottest thing to emerge from the 90s. The buxom blonde was discovered by pure chance when she accompanied some friends to a BC lions football game wearing a form-fitting Labatt’s Beer T-shirt, when suddenly her image was plastered on the jumbo-tron. The crowd cheered its approval, and a Labatt’s beer executive got in touch with the 22 year old right away; and the rest as they say, is history. 48 year old Pamela who was diagnosed with Hepatitis C 13 years ago, contracted by ex husband Tommy Lee, unfortunately doesn't look nearly as smokin’ hot as she did in her 20's.
8. Nikki Cox
Best known for her role as Tiffany Malloy in Unhappily Ever After, Nikki Cox was an effortlessly pretty 18 year old when she shot to fame on the popular 90's TV series. The formerly flawless beauty has changed tremendously since the show's cancellation in 1999, due to not-so-subtle cosmetic surgery. Dr. Michael Fiorillo, a New York plastic surgeon, analyzed photos of the actress and asserts that he doesn't believe she's gone under the knife, but has instead, simply over indulged in fillers for her cheeks, and lips. Still relatively young at only 37 years old, the actress no longer looks as naturally gorgeous as she once did during her hay days.
7. Priscilla Presley
First wife to Elvis Presley, Priscilla was once a darling natural beauty. In a desperate attempt to preserve her good looks, she did what 90% of celebrities do, and opted for plastic surgery as she aged, but the results just aren't the same. Priscilla who appears to have OD'd on the botox injections, is hardly able to move her face and has pretty much held the same expression for the last 30 years. In many cases, when stars head to plastic surgeons in fear of getting older, the outcome isn't that of beauty but of "anti-aging." Anti-aging is meant to conceal one's age, but it isn't exactly a pretty sight.
6. Cameron Diaz
At age 21, Cameron Diaz made her debut in The Mask, as the sultry blonde bombshell Tina Carlyle. Since her first role, the actress hasn't played a character quite as hot, preferring to be taken seriously as an actress instead. The actress told Oprah in 2014, "it's almost like we're failures. It's a personal failure-like our fault, that at 40 years old, I don't still look like I'm 25. Oh I'm Sorry, I apologize, I wasn't able to defy nature." Cameron should be credited with at least going the natural route and avoiding plastic surgery, but in truth, the former beauty aged much faster than normal, and doesn't look as attractive as she once did. Having clearly embraced her crows feet and laugh lines, Cameron has admitted to dabbling in Botox in the past but discontinuing because she didn't like the results. "It changed my face in such a weird way that I was like, 'No, I don't want to be like that' - I'd rather see my face aging than a face that doesn't belong to me at all."
5. Lindsay Lohan
Actress Lindsay Lohan began as a beloved child star with a bright and promising future. The Mean Girls star blossomed into a beautiful young rose-haired beauty which lasted a very short while before she began tampering with and tweaking her face by her early 20s. Slowly Lindsay has morphed into the drug addicted party animal we're familiar with today. Now 28 years old, the sometimes blond, sometimes red head, sometimes actress looks at least 10 years older, and not nearly as good looking as she once naturally was. There's no telling what the former beauty will look like in just another 5 years.
4. Brooke Shields
Actress Brooke Shields dominated the 80s with her one of a kind striking good looks. A gorgeous specimen all her life, Brooke was often cast in controversial roles that sexualized her as early as the age of 10. The now 49 year old actress looks like she may have been related to her 18 year old self, but it hardly looks like it was actually her. There's no history of documented struggle with drugs or alcohol for the Blue Lagoon Star, so the difference in appearance can only be attributed to having aged naturally, and rather quickly in Brooke's case. As early as 28, Brooke's face began to rapidly take on a slightly less attractive appearance. In an interview with More magazine, Brooke reveals her insecurities about aging in Hollywood saying, “I’m proud of my longevity more than anything else. There’s a lot to be said for endurance. I’m trying to find the beauty in the whole picture rather than the crow’s feet. Sure, I wish I had the face I had a decade ago, but I don’t. People say, ‘I love my wrinkles.’ I don’t love my wrinkles – come on!”
3. Janice Dickinson
Depending on how old you are, you'll remember Janice Dickinson as a former supermodel of the 70's, or a former judge on America's Next Top Model. Janice made headlines last year when she was one of the dozens of women who came forward accusing Bill Cosby of sexual assault. Janice revealed that in 1982, when the former America's Next Top Model judge was in her prime, the highly influential TV star Bill Cosby took advantage of the 27 year old by sedating her against her knowledge, and proceeded to sexually assault her. Janice admits that it was her fear of his influence, as well as being discouraged by many, that kept her quiet for more than 40 years. After several stints in rehab for alcohol and drug abuse, the substances have taken their toll on Janice and her looks have faded, and while cosmetic surgery is meant as a solution, it doesn't equate to the natural beauty she once enjoyed.
2. Elizabeth Taylor
Silver screen icon, Elizabeth Taylor is remembered for her breathtaking beauty, documented in over 60 feature films throughout the 40's, 50's and 60's. The late Cleopatra actress chose to age gracefully, which is a fancier word for "without surgical enhancement," and all women who choose this route, especially those in the public eye, should be given their due respect. However, due to various illnesses that plagued Elizabeth, including heart disease which eventually placed her in a wheel chair, the film legend's iconic looks began to fade by the mid 1970's, as she put on a substantial amount of weight, and grew older. In contrast, Joan Collins, who is the same age as Elizabeth, has managed to retain the majority of her looks; with the help of doctors of course, and doesn't look a day over 70.
1. Brigitte Bardot
Hollywood icon Brigitte Bardot made her film debut in And God Created Woman, as the seductive temptress Juliete Hardy, a role that initiated the stereotype for the sexually liberated french woman. The young beauty enjoyed a very fruitful career that lasted two decades before she suddenly left Hollywood due to the burden of celebrity life. While the rest of the world found her to be beautiful, she considered herself ugly. Bridget also could't put up with being envied, stalked, scrutinized and demonized. In 1973, when she filmed her final movie at age 39, the natural beauty packed up and left for the south of France where she's been living for the past 40 years. Now an animal rights activist, Bridget has found solace away from the glare of the public eye, and has also let herself go, no longer having to deal with the pressures of Tinseltown.
